Book Fetcher is a vault that shows how to retrieve book metadata (e.g. title, authors, publisher, etc) from Google's Book API and then populate a note using it.
Below is an animated GIF that demonstrates saving details about the book named 'Hackers' by Steven Levy.
This allows you to rapidly create book-notes without spending the time searching for and typing out the information.
The process is simple: from within Obsidian, search for the book, choose the correct search result (by examining the title or looking at the book cover image). And a new note is created capturing key book information.
What's included in the vault:
- A template to fetch book metadata from Google's Book API
- Instructions to add this capability from the sample vault to another vault
- Instructions on
- fetching your first book
- improving your search results with 'search operators' (exact matches, negation, specific metadata fields)
- how to update the configuration (e.g. where to save the note, how many search results to display, etc)
- troubleshooting rare but potential issues
- accessing Google's Book API documentation for a deeper understanding
- The warm feeling of encouraging more content like this to be created for you in the future!
Enjoy!
